Here’s what it looks like when seven rooms come to Here’s what it looks like when seven rooms come together as one first floor, each with its own distinct personality. Moving from room to room, it feel continuous, but if you look closer, every space is standing on it’s own.

We present one option for each item in a room, so we don’t overwhelm our clients, and if a piece isn’t quite right, we revise it.

How are we able to do this? After almost 25 years of designing homes we understand scale, how to balance one pattern against the others, how to mix finishes and how to select materials that take everyday life, the spills, the foot traffic, the actual living, and still look right years from now.

If you are planning a whole-home project and want it to come together like this, the link in our bio is where to start.

Cross Keys is the fourth home I have designed for Cross Keys is the fourth home I have designed for the same client. Her starter house, her second home, a vacation home, and now the townhouse she chose when she decided to downsize.

When someone brings you back through that many chapters of their life, it is the highest compliment the work can earn. You are not just being hired again. You are being trusted with the place they come home to, one more time.

The renovation aspect of the project covered the kitchen, two full baths, and a powder room. The kitchen was the puzzle. It was closed off from the rest of the first floor, and once we opened it up there was very little wall left to hold cabinets. Her words afterward meant more to me than any photo of the finished space:
“This kitchen was a design quandary and Liz turned it into a fully functioning showpiece. We could not be happier with the entire experience.”

After almost 25 years, these are the moments I am most proud of, not any single project, but the fact that the same person keeps handing me the keys.

No greater joy in life! No greater joy in life!
The powder room is usually the room where clients The powder room is usually the room where clients want to play it safe. It is small, it is a half bath, and it feels like the last place to take a real risk. I almost always push the other way.

It’s the room where I reach for wallpaper first, and the reasons build on each other.

Wrapping the whole room in a bold pattern adds up to less material than a single accent wall in a bigger space. It costs less to go all in here, yet it rewards you more for doing so. That is a rare trade in the world of design.

This is also a space you move through in a matter of minutes. A print that might feel like a lot in a larger space reads as considered and immersive when you are only there for a moment.

And it is the one room in the house where a guest is completely alone. Isn’t it more fun to give them something to take in rather than a painted wall and a mirror?

So if there is one room to be brave in, this is it. Small enough that the risk stays low, and seen closely enough to be worth every bit of the effort.

The husband at our Original Northwood project had The husband at our Original Northwood project had one request. He wanted a bar.

We were planning a kitchen renovation in a compact house, and the plan called for removing the wall between the kitchen and the dining room to open the space up. But the only place a bar could go was directly in front of the largest window in the room. Solid cabinetry there would have blocked the main source of light and cancelled out most of what the wall removal was meant to accomplish.

One request, and on paper it worked against the whole point of the renovation.

So I designed the cabinet with glass on both sides and glass shelves throughout. The light passes through it and keeps going into the room. From the other side of the kitchen you can still see the trees outside.

Some of the best decisions I have made came from problems that had no standard answer. When every obvious option is wrong, that is the moment to stop, pivot and start thinking outside the box.
